Some sad news about our former Chair of Governors

It is with great sadness that we have learned our former Chair of Governors, Professor Michael Wright, DL, CBE, died aged 73 on Saturday 28 May.

He was a member of the former Thanet College’s Governing Body from 1998, taking the reins as Chair of it in December 2009 until he stood down to enjoy a well-deserved retirement in 2014.

EKC Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Graham Razey, said: “Everyone at EKC Group was truly saddened to hear of the death of our former Chair, Professor Michael Wright, DL, CBE.

“On my first day as Principal for what was then Thanet College, I distinctly recall meeting Michael to be welcomed into the post by him. During that meeting, he managed to inspire and excite me for the challenges that lay ahead. He was genuinely passionate about enhancing the lives of young people in the communities we serve, and that was clear from the first moment I spoke to him. His enthusiasm and mentorship helped to grow me as a leader and position our Group for the success which has followed.

“Michael has left a huge and lasting legacy across East Kent and beyond, and I will miss him tremendously as one of the characters who has most defined my personal and professional growth. Our thoughts are with Michael’s family at this difficult time.”
