Thanet Tutors Scoop e-learning Awards

Two tutors from Thanet College gained awards from the annual E-Learning Awards Ceremony, held in Pimlico, London.
Jane Shorter, from Personal and Work Skills, and Andy Dodds, from Construction, saw off competition from a range of colleges and other learning providers from across the South East from Oxford to the Isle of Wight and across Kent. Thanet College was the only Kent College to win any of the awards.
Both tutors were congratulated separately by the judges after the awards ceremony.

Jane's award was in the learner support category for the use of picture series in learning plans for students. Not all of Jane’s students are good at reading so she turned the required tasks into images through the use of pictures taken from real life and real situations. She then used them to help the students remember the context and place those things must be done.

Andy's award is for the use of the learning Curve with his students and his development of learning plans using Google docs. Andy has combined Moodle’s Personal Learning Plans with Google Docs spreadsheets inside the College Moodle VLE, named The Learning Curve, which allows students access to detailed course progression tracking sheets. Using this approach students are able to manage their own route back and catch up with any missed theoretical work through any missed lessons.
Congratulations to them both in confirming Thanet College as a leading light in the use of technology to support teaching and learning following the multiple awards that have been received in previous years.
