Thanet Partnership Catering Project
We are the Thanet Partnership Catering Project, based in the Hospitality and Catering Department. We run an AQA course in Food Studies for adults with a learning disability; we have a wide range of students with different abilities and ages from all backgrounds. We cover both practical and theory lessons in industrial catering, providing food for the refectory and staff Bistro. This means the students get an insight into how the catering industry works, cooking for large numbers of customers as well as individually producing dishes and helping the students to cook at home.
Health and Safety is also paramount to their learning to provide them with the necessary skills to work in the outside catering environment. Students also do work placements both here in college and outside in community settings, this we envisage to lead to part time paid employment. We feel this course provides a good opportunity to learn new skills and work alongside the mainstream catering courses already running in this department.
