Thanet College film students meet Channel Five's Hotel Inspector

Three students on Thanet College’s BTEC in Film and TV National Diploma were invited to film the ceremony of the unveiling of refurbished rooms at the Walpole Bay an event which itself was being filmed by Channel Five for their hit show The Hotel Inspector.

Second year students Robert Malbon Joe Pettet and Charlotte Wetherell were asked to make a promotional DVD as part of their BTEC Final Major Project about the Walpole Bay Hotel by proprietor Jane Bishop. The DVD will aim to show how the period styled hotel could be used as a location for film and TV production companies.

The students will use footage of this event to show how the Walpole Bay is attracting media interest. They managed to interview TV producers directors and the Hotel Inspector herself Alex Polizzi, granddaughter of Lord Forte and the niece of Sir Rocco Forte. As the event was very formal the students were required to dress up in evening dress to reflect the 1920’s heritage of the Hotel which was a gala occasion attracting many media professionals.

Course Leader Nigel Breadman said. “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to meet and see a real documentary crew at work and adds Channel five to the list of production companies that we have been involved with throughout this year including ITV imagine and Channel Four, we are very grateful to Jane Bishop in allowing us to get involved in this event.”

Other students on the course are involved in making promotional DVDs for the ‘Art for All’ gallery in Margate, Galleon Cruises Ramsgate and the Elite fitness studio Broadstairs. Past clients have included Mencap, Ramsgate Sea cadets and KCC. This will be the student’s final project before progressing onto university in September.
