New Start 2009
New Start 2009
Students of all ages are now starting their courses with Thanet College, from full-time to part-time courses and training in the workplace to learning something new in the community. The new academic year is a very positive time for the college and to show this, some students were asked why they chose to study with us.
A group of catering students, studying the Advanced Craft Level 3, were asked how they felt about starting their course. Sam, who has been with the college for 3 years now, told us:
“The second year of my course was really fun and interesting; I’m excited about starting my 3rd year at college!”
Vicky, who was also present, said:
“I started to study Professional Chefs, but moved to the Front of House course and am looking forward to the trips to Eastwell Mannor and London on the 28th.”
One successful student Elliot Sherry, has been with the college for over 5 years, starting with a pre-vocational course that he completed while still studying at school. Now he is also on the 3rd year of his course.
One of our Hairdressing NVQ level 2 students, Nicky, started the course as she always had a passion for hairdressing, she went on to say that she chose us specifically as:
“All my friends achieved their qualifications here at the college”
We also have a number of apprentices working throughout the campus. Nicki is studying Foundation Level AAT chose the course as she likes working with figures and wants to start a new career in finance.
Thanet College Principal Sue Buss added her comments on the year to come:
“This year we have been impressed by the increase in demand for courses at Thanet College. In response to the recession both school leavers and adults appreciate the need to improve education and skills in a much more competitive environment. We work closely with employers to ensure that courses are developed to meet the changing needs of local businesses and increasingly our focus is on the development of world class skills for a global market. We very much welcome more students to the college and there is a real buzz on campus as we start our new academic year.”
Of all those we spoke to the general feel is of excitement, with the fresh start that coming to Thanet College can provide to its students. With so many things happening throughout the year, this positive outlook will help ensure their continued success.
