Japanese Internship Program Student

Asuka has been working with the Sales & Marketing team for the last two weeks as part of the Japanese Internship Program as she wanted to gain a better understanding of the English language including useful English sentences for use in the work place back home.

While in Japan, Asuka has learnt grammatical English but this is not practical. hopes to eventually gain a job in an Import/Export company where she can put her linguistic skills to good use.

Having spent a number of weeks within the department, Asuka has learned practical skills that will help with her English studies when she returns, the ones that were most beneficial is the use of real English phrases. She has always been taught ‘American English’ and understanding the differences between how we speak in the UK helps in sounding fluent.

Some examples are the use of mobile instead of cell phone’, or queuing instead of making a line. These may seem like simple things to people who speak English as their first language, but when trying to explain things to someone else they make all the difference.

When discussing differences between her hometown and Broadstairs, Asuka is quoted as saying, ‘Broadstairs is so windy! I live in-land away from the sea in my town and it is nice with it being close by’.
