Hamish Fulton Kent Walk

On a very cold day in March, the entire Performing Arts section became a work of art, working in conjunction with world famous artist Hamish Fulton and the Turner Contemporary Gallery in Margate.

Over 200 people, including 45 students and 2 staff members from the college, braved the cold to take part in a group walk organised by the Walking Artist, Hamish Fulton. They completed seven circuits of the pool wall, walking in silence and maintaining a distance of a meter from the person in front of them.

Seen from the promenade, the walkers appeared to trace a continuous line on the beach, while for those taking part, the experience was described as being peaceful, meditative and serene. The walk was professionally filmed from angles all over Margate seafront and a film will be shown as an exhibit in the Turner Contemporary in 2012.

Hamish Fulton is an artist who has worked across the globe, organising walks that are recorded or photographed to be exhibited as, what he describes as being, ‘Walking Art’.
