Apprenticeship Graduation

On Tuesday the 4th of May, representatives from local companies, staff and guests, shared in the success of more than 30 Apprentices who were recognised for their achievement in completing their programme of training.

The event, the 3rd of its kind, is not only aimed at celebrating the hard work and endeavour of the college staff and the Apprentices but also to give thanks to the companies who sponsor them.

Not everyone was able to attend, however a role of honour has been put together in the form of a graduation leaflet that includes all the Apprentice names and also the organisation they studied with.

Apprenticeships are tough qualifications, individuals need to demonstrate their knowledge, they need high levels of performance and also to be in full time work. More often than not they will also have to study Mathematics, English, sometimes Information Technology, (IT) as well as knowing about Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR).

Modern businesses no longer view Apprentices as cheap labour, but more often than not regard them as key members of staff, having been immersed in the companies’ culture and ways of doing things. They will also have been trained to Industry Standards and can bring this knowledge into business practice.

Introducing the event, Head of Business Services, Sarah Poston, said,

"Apprenticeships are ‘good for business’ especially in the current climate, they prepare young people for a life and career of work. They also demonstrate Thanet Colleges’ long term commitment to the business and wider community, supporting the Colleges mission to ‘Raise aspirations, develop skills and deliver quality"
