The Towns

Broadstairs
   .

Situated on the eastern coast of the island, Broadstairs is  home to the College as well as most of our homestay providers. One of the prettiest and classiest seaside towns, on a clear day you can see France across the channel while sipping coffee in one of our seaside cafes or even the Bay View Restaurant. Broadstairs has a long association with Charles Dickens, and hosts a yearly Charles Dickens festival, as well as its world famous folk festival and annual food festival.

Ramsgate

Ramsgate is the southernmost town in Thanet and began life as a late medieval fishing village. In the 18th century, the town was designated as a port and the royal harbour was constructed. It remains one of the most distinctive and beautiful harbours in the world. Ramsgate has a lively seafront and a newly emergent café culture. It is also home to Thanet’s only ferry terminal, providing daily sailings to Oostende.

Margate
Margate was the most popular of Thanet’s Victorian seaside resorts. The town sports the largest sand beaches on the island as well as traditional English coastal casinos, providing entertainment and shelter in case of rain. It is also home to the mysterious Shell Grotto and the historic ‘Dreamland’ amusement park soon to be refurbished as the UK’s first heritage theme park. Margate has more bars and clubs than any of the other towns in Thanet and if you like live music then this is the place for you.
