Fees and Expenses

Studying in the UK is not a cheap option, but it doesn’t necessarily need to be expensive! It is important to know how much you should expect to spend and budget accordingly.

Your main cost will be fees.
One-year full time programme at Thanet College is generally £5,000.

English Language courses are charged by the week.
  • 15 hours tuition is £115 per week
  • 21 hours per week is £145 per week

Discounts are available.

Fees must be paid in full before the student can start studying. The discount only applies at time of enrolment, NOT for extended study.

Other Costs

Travel
You should budget for both your inward and home journey. Generally speaking the earlier you book the cheaper the ticket will be.

A train ticket to London and back can cost £50 before 9:00am and about £25 after 9:00am. A ticket to Canterbury and back on the train will cost about £5. Buses are cheaper, about £2 per day to ride the Thanet network. Taxis generally cost between £4 and £6 to take you anywhere in Thanet.

Food
Food in the shops can be cheap. Local shops sell most things you would need at relatively low cost. Remember that food or products grown/made in the UK will be cheaper, so potatoes and lamb are cheaper than rice or beef. International foods are available at the bigger supermarkets. Indian, Thai, Chinese and Japanese food is very popular in the UK, although it may be very different to what you would have at home!

Eating out can be expensive in the UK. Buying alcohol in a restaurant can be very expensive. Pubs often serve good food at reasonable prices.

Clothing and other items
You can get anything you need in the UK but you sometimes need to shop around to find a good price. Cotton is generally expensive compared to America or Europe, so jeans can be costly. Wool or synthetics are cheaper. It pays to shop around. Some stores are cheaper (Tesco/Asda/Liddl) than others (Marks and Spencer/Waitrose).
