Course Overview

This course allows you to acquire basic motor vehicle competencies in a college-based environment, which simulates working practice.


 

Course Structure

You will have to complete five units, all of which are assessed by observation in the college workshop. Underpinning knowledge is tested by completing assignments in class, verbal questioning and City &Guilds on-line GOLA exams.

The units are:
  • Housekeeping
  • Health and Safety
  • Introduction to Vehicle Technology and Workshop Methods and Processes
  • Carry out Basic Routine Maintenance
  • Conduct Pre and Post Work Vehicle Inspections

Qualification Aims

The qualification aims are:
  • City & Guilds VRQ Level 1 in Vehicle Maintenance
  • Functional Skills in Maths and English
Progression from this course is onto a VRQ Level 2 Vehicle Maintenance and Repair course. This course can lead to work in the local motor vehicle repair industry especially if used to progress to the MV repair &Maintenance NVQ Programme.

Assessments/Examinations

Continual assessments are carried out in both the theory and practical aspects of the course. Examinations are on-line with City & Guilds

Cost / Equipment

Tuition fees = £495 (Tuition is free for 16-18 yr olds but there are additional costs):

 

Equipment costs:
Training Programme on-line access fee (Approx £16)
You will also need to provide:

Steel toecap boots – Approx £30
Overalls will be supplied by Thanet College
