Course Overview

This course is suitable for anyone interested in Art and Design wishing to broaden their knowledge and gain a formal qualification in order to progress further in this field.

Course Structure

The programme is delivered over one year and comprises six units of work. Practical two and three-dimensional art and design work including:
  • Drawing and Painting
  • Surface Design and Print making
  • IT
  • Graphics and Illustration
  • Photography
  • 3D Craft/Design Studies
  • History of Art and Contextual Studies
  • Essential Skills
  • Business and Professional Practice
At least two visits to galleries and museums are arranged throughout the year.

BTEC First Diploma in Art & Design

Assessments/Examinations

Assessment through a portfolio of coursework which includes a Final Major Project

Cost / Equipment

Students over 19 may be required to pay tuition fees.

Registration for students aged 19 or over at the start of the course will be approx £75

The student will need to provide a basic art kit and some consumables including photocopy cards, sketchbooks and some paper. Total cost around £80-£100.

The cost for trips will be approx £40.

Entry Requirements

  • College Interview
  • Essential Skills Screening
  • Satisfactory School report or references
  • A GNVQ Foundation or 4 GCSEs at grade D-G or equivalent. (Although students will normally have gained an A-C grade in Art or design subject area)
  • Art Portfolio.
