Course Overview
Students will be interested in seeking employment in bookkeeping, keeping the accounts of a small business, or progressing to further studies in the AAT accounting qualification. The AAT is a very well-known association in the world of accounting. Employers value the qualification. Prospects for possible future career opportunities are good for AAT-qualified students.
The course will run for 30 weeks
NB: These qualifications reflect the new AAT Accounting Standards.
Course Structure
The programme will cover the following topics:
- Basic Accounting 1 & 2
- Work Effectively in Accounting & Finance
- Basic Costing
- Computerised Accounting
Qualification Aims
Students successfully completing this first stage can progress to the AAT Diploma in Accounting L3 qualification.
Assessments/Examinations
The course is examined by five Computer-based assessments throughout the year.
Cost / Equipment
Plus: 5 Computer based Assessments @ £30 each (£150) The AAT is a professional body.
Students will need to arrange and pay registration and examination fees direct to the AAT. Currently fees are:
- AAT Student Admission fee: (one off) £34
- UK Student annual membership fee: £74
Students will need to purchase 5 recommended textbooks, currently retailing at approximately £17 Free tuition is available to those in receipt of certain means tested benefits or to their un-waged dependants.

Entry Requirements
There are no formal qualifications required but students must possess good numeracy, literacy and IT skills. Some accounting or basic book keeping experience would be an advantage. Applicants will be invited to attend a short, informal interview prior to the course commencing and will be expected to attend a special enrolment day.
