Course Overview

This is an academic course equivalent to AS study which enables students to apply for degrees in Social Work, Nursing and Midwifery. You need to have a GCSE at Grade C or above to be able to start this course.

Course Structure

This is a one-year course with attendance at College spread over 4 days.
The core areas of study will be:

  • Psychology
  • Sociology
  • Vocational professional practice
  • Integrated Science
  • Social work theory
  • OCN level 2 Mathematics
  • InformationTechnology

Qualification Aims

On passing this course, students will achieved 60 credits of which 75% will be at Level 3 and this will enable students to progress to University to study Social Work, Nursing and Midwifery.

Assessments/Examinations

There are examinations and continuous assessment throughout the course.  You will be required to complete 2500 word essay and examinations at the end of the course.

Cost / Equipment

All students pay a registration fee of  £110.00

Text books will need to be purchased costing approx £60.

Free tuition is available to those in receipt of certain means tested benefits or to their un-waged dependants.  19 or over in the region of £495 per year.

Entry Requirements

To complete this course full time you are required to have a GCSE C grade in English. Those students who do not have this entry requirement will be offered the part time option or the Fresh Start course.
It is a condition of entry that all students must pass an initial assessment at the start of the course.
