Course Overview

The Music Access Programme is designed for students wishing to apply for a place on a music degree programme. It has been enormously successful with Access students joining the undergraduate programme and progressing beyond to the masters programme.

Course Structure

There are three main parts to the programme:

  • Performance Development of Practical Skills and Theory to Grade V level
  • Listening Improvement of Listening Skills
  • Appraisal Increasing Critical Awareness

For those unable to read music, notation at all levels will be taught.
 

All students will be provided with sixteen individual instrumental or vocal lessons as individual and group performance is integral to the activities of the department. The course offers the opportunity to acquire and develop skills in performance, music theory, music technology and music history.

Qualification Aims

The central aim of the Access to Music programme is to enable students to develop the skill, experience and confidence to begin a higher education course in music.

Assessments/Examinations

Students are assessed by a variety of methods including assignments, projects, case studies, workshops, performances and evaluations. Practical work representing actual or simulated music industry, often in groups, forms part of the assessment.

Cost / Equipment

Tuition fees: £605 for UK resident students (£2250 for International resident students)

Entry Requirements

Access courses are designed for student over the age of 19 who have had a break from Education. Applicants will require an interview.
