Candidates gain the Engineering Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 framework qualification by completing and achieving:
NVQ2: Site based evidence portfolio.
Technical Certificate: College-based course covering trade knowledge: exam and practical assessments.
Literacy/Numeracy/ICT: Fulfilled by completion of English, maths and ICT at an appropriate level.
ERR: Employment Rights & Responsibilities.
PLTS: Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.
All qualification elements must be achieved to complete the Apprenticeship Framework.
There are a number of mandatory units concentrating on health and safety in the workplace to be completed. Apprentices will be required to study a number of optional units linked to specific trade requirements.
There is an expectation that candidates will undertake personal study in order to demonstrate knowledge of the subject area, and compile a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their competence.
Apprentices should be employed within an appropriate Engineering environment. Apprentices will be invited to attend a short informal interview prior to the course commencing and to undertake initial assessment to demonstrate the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy required. Apprentices will be allocated a personal tutor for guidance throughout the duration of the course.
The process of assessment requires the demonstration of skills together with appropriate knowledge and understanding to a specified standard. Assessment of the NVQ is based on a combination of observation, questioning and collection of evidence from the workplace.
This course is fully funded if the learner is aged under 19. If the learner is 19+ then a £500 employer contribution is required.
