Students launch record label
A group of Thanet College Music students have launched their own in-house record company. They plan to release music written, produced and performed by Thanet College students through the label.
‘T.C Records’ has been created by 18 Level 3 Music students, who will also manage the label, with everything taking place within the College, from song writing to producing, marketing to styling the bands.
The label currently has a double-a side single available to download from iTunes featuring tracks from student bands Bruci3 Bonus, an alternative rock group, and Saints v Sinners, a metal band. They plan to release more tracks in the future, as well as an album containing a mix of genres.
One of the students behind the label, Anthony Fahy, said learners will gain vital experience of how the music industry operates.
“We set up T.C. Records to make the learning process of producing and releasing a music product as realistic as possible. We hope to showcase local talent from level 3 music students and will be marketing and promoting these artists ourselves, gaining real life experience of working in the industry,” he said.
Programme Area Manager for Creative Arts, Brendan Cahill said the students will gain vital experience. “The project sets them up with the tools to go into the industry when they leave. The course itself has a strong emphasis on students becoming multi-skilled, and through this project they have had experience of setting up PA systems, production, marketing and playing live.”
