Wildwood Project

Thanet College’s Painting and Decorating students are set to volunteer at local wildlife park Wildwood, working on the renovation of the souvenir shop.

Eighteen level 2 students have volunteered to re-paint the shop at the centre near Herne Bay, as well as re-stain the outside of the building. They are working full-time for four weeks from Monday 9 January, gaining valuable experience of working within the community on a real life project.

Sue Shea, Deputy Manager of the souvenir shop is happy with the progress the students are making, “We are very pleased with the work the students have done so far, they have been very professional and I hope we can find them more to do in the future."

Wildwood's Head Ranger Chris Towner thinks the project is a great idea. "It’s great to be working with Thanet College on this project that benefits both Wildwood and the students. As a charity we have to keep our costs low so this project suits us, whilst giving the students some valuable real-life work experience," he said.

On completion of the work, Chris will provide each student with an individual employer’s reference.
