Equality and Diversity
At Thanet College we are committed to providing all our students and staff with a safe, inclusive and supportive environment in which to learn and work. We aim to ensure that everyone in our college community is treated with respect and dignity; we actively promote equality of opportunity and recognise and celebrate the diversity of our community.
We will not tolerate discrimination on the grounds of disability, race, gender, faith, age or sexuality and have policies and processes in place to support this. We treat any cases of harassment or discrimination very seriously and take steps to eliminate it.
As a student or a member of staff at Thanet College you can be assured that your individual needs will be taken into consideration and that you have opportunities to fulfil your potential, achieve your learning goals and equip you for the next steps in your life.
We strive to embed equality and diversity at Thanet College by:
- Treating every student and member of staff as an individual and working with them to ensure that their experience of the College is a really positive one,
- Identifying any gaps in achievement, success, retention and recruitment and taking steps to close those gaps,
- Carrying out equality analysis of our policies, procedures, plans and decisions to make sure that no one is disadvantaged on the basis of disability, race, gender, faith, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy/maternity or caring responsibilities,
- Celebrating diversity through cross college events, activities and the broader curriculum,
- Listening carefully to our students’ and staffs’ opinions and changing our practices to improve our services,
- Being a holder of the ‘two ticks’ accreditation which shows that we are positive about disabled people,
- Having a student accessibility statement (hyperlink here); this sets out the facilities, resources, help and advice that we offer to our students to help them achieve whilst they are at college,
- Capturing information on equal opportunities so that we can monitor whether the college is inadvertently creating any barriers and to ensure there is no discrimination in our practices,
- Having in place support and network groups such as the network group for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students.
We have a range of Policies and Procedures in place to help embed our commitment to equality and diversity. You can find these together with all of our other publically posted policies through the following:
